Thankful for the last year

I remember when i was a kid and it took forever for one year to pass, now it flies by faster than i can believe. One year ago we were in the PICU at Cottage hospital on about day 18, we received the worst news a parent can get, Micah was 6 months old. Our son had a TERMINAL illness with NO CURE! Since then we have had 2 shorter hospital stays and lots of worrying but getting more comfortable trusting my instincts as a mom rather than the machine's numbers. Micah has lost his beautiful smile and i think that is one thing that just kills me. sometimes i think i see him smirk though. His eyes still smile and he laughs all the time. Micah is good at making me laugh and that just warms my heart. Joseph went from being afraid of all the change and equipment to helping and playing with Micah. Joseph is very protective of his little brother. Micah is learning how to get our attention and try to tell us what he wants with noises and his eyes. It is amazing to me also that we were told one year ago that our son would probably live between 9 and 18 months and here we are at 18 months and he is still strong and happy and fairly healthy for a kid with a terminal illness. Micah has brought so much meaning to our lives and totally rearranged our priorities and i am so grateful for that. One year is not very long but every day is precious to us. I am so grateful for all the people we have met along this road, for the love and support and the strength I have found within myself. Most of all I am thankful for the last year with my son and every day we get to continue to care for him and love him.

You have taught me so much: What true faith looks like lived out, trust, patience, peace, joy in our sufferings, the list could go on forever! God is using you everyday and more then anything he is teaching you more then Im sure Ill ever know! God understand your suffering, your hurts..he too watched his son suffer.
Im so sorry we havent been able to spend time together lately but know we think and pray for you daily! LOVE YOU! CRISTIN

How sad we are to get so caught up in the hurry hurry of CHRISTmas stuff.
What to buy, will it be enough. I need, I want, must have.
What a blessing you have to know that right now what you hold is more than you could have dreamed for. Every day, every moment is truley a BLESSING.
Thank you for reminding us (ME).
God bless and keep your family in the warmth of His embrace.

I am so proud to have you as my granddaughter. You are amazing. I love you all so much and wish I was able to be closer geographically. You are always in my prayers, which makes me feel closer to all of you because of our Heavenly Father, who is always with all of us. Love you so much, Damma

Oh Chels, I think about you and your family and pray for all of you every single day. I am glad that you have a thankful heart in the midst of all of this. It is a beautiful testamony of what God can do in any willing heart. Seriously, how can we not be thankful for every child God gives us no matter what the circumstances. We just love them! I wish you a Merry Christmas and a hope-filled and wonderful new year.

I too am so thankful for this year. I wish we could have met under different circumstances, however, my Micah days are my most treasured. You guys have become family. You are an amazing mother Chelsea. I love you guys!
